What's on the classroom job wheel

The wheel comes loaded with twelve roles that cover the everyday running of a classroom. Each one gives a student a real responsibility:

  • Line Leader — leads the class when moving through the building.
  • Door Holder — holds the door during transitions.
  • Book Monitor — hands out and collects reading materials.
  • Recycling — manages the recycling bin at the end of the day.
  • Attendance — counts present students or carries the register.
  • Weather — checks and reports on today's weather for morning circle.
  • Board Wiper — cleans the whiteboard or chalkboard when needed.
  • Plant Care — waters any classroom plants.
  • Paper Passer — distributes worksheets and handouts.
  • Timer — runs a timer during timed activities or transitions.
  • Librarian — keeps the classroom book area tidy and organised.
  • Team Captain — leads a small group during group work.

If your class uses different jobs, you can edit the list directly. Delete any role with the X next to it, type a new one into the text field and press Enter, or paste a whole new list at once using the bulk import text area. Changes take effect immediately — the wheel updates as you go.

Adjusting the wheel for your classroom setup

Not every classroom uses all twelve roles, and some run more. A few quick adjustments make the wheel fit your routine exactly.

Removing or hiding a job

If a role isn't active this week — say, Plant Care during a school break — tap the eye icon on that entry to hide it. The job stays in your list but gets skipped during spins. Toggle it back on when it's relevant again. To remove a job permanently for the session, click its X.

Giving a job a higher chance of being picked

Each entry has a numeric weight (default 1). Raise the weight on a job you want to come up more often — for example, if you have a job that needs filling multiple times a day, a higher weight makes the wheel land on it proportionally more. Adjust the number directly in the entry row.

Running one job role per spin session

Turn on the Remove Winner toggle below the wheel. After each spin, the winning job is removed from the pool. Spin through the whole list and every role gets assigned exactly once — no duplicates until you reset. This works well at the start of a new job rotation when you want to fill all twelve slots in one go.

Using the wheel fairly in front of the class

A classroom job wheel spinner works best when students can see it. Pull it up on a projector or interactive whiteboard — the wheel is big, clearly labelled, and the spin animation is visible from the back of the room. Because the selection is visually random, students accept the result without the complaints that come from a teacher picking manually.

The winner dialog shows the job name clearly when the wheel stops. Share buttons let you post the result to a class channel or copy it to the clipboard if you're logging assignments. Spin history appears below the wheel throughout the session, so you can glance back at what was picked earlier without keeping a separate note.

For other random classroom decisions — groupings, question targets, activity order — the classroom hub has wheels built for those purposes too. If you need a completely custom wheel for something not covered there, the wheel generator lets you build one from scratch.

Frequently asked

Q.01

how many classroom jobs should a class have

This wheel covers 12 jobs, which is a common number for elementary classrooms — enough to give most students a role in a class of 20–30 without duplicating responsibilities.

Q.02

what does the Team Captain job do in elementary classroom

On this wheel, Team Captain means the student leads a small group during group work activities — distinct from Line Leader, which is specifically for hallway transitions.
